Julie Taymor reaches agreement with ‘Spider-Man’

The battle between producers of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark and former director of the production Julie Taymor has been settled and Taymor should be flying high.

Producers have agreed to pay Julie Taymor full royalties for her Director services for the New York production of Spider-an Turn Off the Dark, from the inception of the run through its duration. They have also agreed to pay certain other amounts due to Ms. Taymor as a collaborator, when the show’s New York production recoups its $75 million investment. An agreement with regard to compensation owed for subsequent productions was made as well. She will reportedly receive nearly $10,000 a week throughout the New York run of Spider-man.

The arrangement stated that Ms. Taymor’s services as a director and collaborator and any other involvement in the show have been officially terminated. Michael Cohl and Jeremiah Harris of 8 Legged Productions said in a joint statement: “We are very happy to have reached an amicable compromise with the SDC that will allow us all to move on.  Now we can focus our energies on providing an amazing entertainment experience for our audiences, who have come to see the show in record numbers and made it a tremendous hit.  We hope to be able to employ many talented theater professionals, including SDC members, for years to come.”

Julie Taymor is involved in another litigation with the producers of Spider-Man that is yet to be resolved. She would like to claim half the profits earned from the original Spider-Man book that show worked on with Bono and The Edge. She’s also seeking another $1 million for unauthorized use of her version of the show.
